Being conscious of today's growing awareness of energy saving products and processes, we seek out ways in witch to serve our customers by remaining extremely energy focused.  By becomeing an Energy Star Partner, we believe that we are able to not only build a quality home, but that we can build one that is extremely energy efficient as well.  To earn the Energy Star, a home must be inspected before, during and after it's construction to make sure it meets the guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  These homes are quieter and more comfortable, have lower utility bills, and help protect the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  Preuhs Builders is one of the only local home builders building Energy Star Qualified Homes.

Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs
If every American home replaced just one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified bulb, we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year, more than $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars.

By replacing the five most frequently used light fixtures in your home with ENERGY STAR qualified models, you can save more than $65 each year in energy costs. Light fixtures that have earned the ENERGY STAR combine quality and attractive design with the highest levels of energy efficiency available today.

· ENERGY STAR qualified bulbs use about 75 percent less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer.
· Save about $30 or more in electricity costs over each bulb's lifetime.
· Produce about 75 percent less heat, so they're safer to operate and can cut energy costs associated with home cooling.

A programmable thermostat is ideal for people who are away from home during set periods of time throughout the week. Through proper use of pre-programmed settings, a programmable thermostat can save you about $150 every year in energy costs.

Residential electricity use by consumer electronic products is responsible for more than 25% of household electricity use.*

Home electronic products use energy when they're off to power features like clock displays and remote controls. Those that have earned the ENERGY STAR use as much as 60% less energy to perform these functions, while providing the same performance at the same price as less-efficient models. Less energy means you pay less on your energy bill.

Simple actions can make a big difference. The average home has roughly two TVs, a VCR, a DVD player and three telephones. If these items were replaced with ENERGY STAR models, it would save over 25 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions, the equivalent to taking over 3 million cars off the road.
